34th Music Festival cancelled

Dear Juneau Jazz & Classics patrons, sponsors, volunteers, and friends,

Our world has shifted dramatically over the past few weeks, and experts are instructing us to take precautions against the risks posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The JJ&C Board of Directors and staff considered how we would keep our audience, the artists, our volunteers, and our staff safe during JJ&C events. Ultimately, we decided on the most cautious of options: to cancel the May 2020 Festival.

In times like these we are starkly reminded of exactly why Juneau Jazz and Classics exists in this community. In the words of the great poet Robert Browning, “He who hears music, feels his solitude peopled at once.” Every year JJ&C brings world-class musicians to our incredible community to celebrate the human spirit together. This year, we will follow the experts’ advice for distancing ourselves from others; however, this will not prevent our hearts from celebrating together.

Although this rapid festival cancellation is financially challenging for JJ&C, we are working tirelessly to ensure we pull through this uncertain time and so that we can keep the music coming to Juneau. We are rescheduling some of the 2020 Festival musicians for later in the year and planning a fall festival with our new Artistic Director, Zuill Bailey. As you know, our sponsors, donors, and volunteers are critical to realizing these ambitions.

We will soon start the process of refunding May 2020 Festival ticket purchases to the original form of payment. If you are a ticket holder and you would like to opt-out of reimbursement and use your payment as a donation to JJ&C, please contact Executive Director Sandy Fortier. Our office is closed during the pandemic and Sandy is working remotely, so please contact Sandy via email at sandy@jazzandclassics.org.

Finally, to you, our sponsors, donors and volunteers; we can’t express our gratitude enough. Please reach out to JJ&C with questions, concerns, or ways you can help. Supporting JJ&C strengthens our community and enriches lives in Juneau. Please join us in our efforts ahead as we keep the music coming!

Warm regards,

Zane M Jones, Board President
