Janet Clippard, Bass
Janet Clippard is currently the Principal Bassist of the Miami City Ballet and Orchestra Miami. From1984 until 2003, she was the Assistant Principal Bassist of the Florida Philharmonic Orchestra performing alongside her former teacher, Principal Bassist Lucas Drew. Ms. Clippard was a founding member of the American Sinfonietta with which, for a decade, she toured annually playing in the great concert halls of Europe. The American Sinfonietta also served as the summer orchestra of the Bellingham Festival of Music in Washington. She also performs occasionally with the Florida Orchestra and the Jacksonville Symphony. In chamber music performance, Ms. Clippard has collaborated with such groups as the Austrian String Quartet, the Delray String Quartet, the Miami String Quartet, and the Amernet String Quartet. Ms. Clippard earned a Bachelor of Music from the University of Miami, where she studied with Lucas Drew. She completed the advanced studies course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London where her teacher was Thomas Martin. She spent summers studying the bass at the Stetson University Orchestral Institute, the Aspen Music Festival, and the Mozarteum Summer Academy in Salzburg. Ms. Clippard spent two years as Assistant Librarian for the Houston Symphony and is currently the Music Librarian for the Atlantic Classical Orchestra. She is also Associate Editor for Lucas Drew’s St. Francis Publications, publishing double bass and string music.
